Almost every comparison site in this category sells its top spot and does not mention it. This one runs affiliate links, says so on every page, and still puts the apps in the order they deserve.
Why This Exists
Search this category and you get a wall of pages that all crown a different app, each one the app paying the most that month. Nothing in them tells you what the thing is actually like to use, what it costs once you are past the trial, or what it does with your conversations.
That is a low bar to clear, and clearing it honestly is the entire point of this site.
How Ranking Works
Apps are paid for out of pocket, not comped, because a free account gets treated differently. Ranking is based on what the app is like after the novelty wears off, what it actually charges, and how it handles your data.
Where a link earns a commission, it is disclosed in the footer of every page. Payment cannot buy a position, and an app being generous with its affiliate rate is not a reason it goes higher.
