Talkie AI Review: Free Tier, Ads, and Characters
A Talkie AI review from both store listings, the terms, privacy policy and community guidelines, plus the web app's own strings that spell out the free tier.

Search Apple's US App Store for Talkie today and the app with 50 million Play installs isn't there. What's there is Talkie Lab, from the same Singapore company, rated 18+ where the Play app is rated Teen.
That's the shape a Talkie AI review has to start from, so here's the direct answer. Talkie is free to chat with, up to a daily limit and an "energy" meter that the app's own interface text says you refill by waiting, watching an ad, or subscribing. Talkie+ is $9.99 a month on the App Store, with a Pro tier at $24.99 that the vendor's own FAQ still describes as coming soon. The written content rules ban not just explicit material but anything with "suggestive or implicit sexual undertones", which is stricter than its reputation. The FAQ admits memory is "technically limited". The privacy policy is better than most in this category on paper, and the Google Play Data safety panel for the same app says it collects no data at all, which the policy contradicts in its first section. It's worth the free tier if you can live with the ads and the filter. I wouldn't pay until the two apps and the two age ratings make sense to you.
Everything below was read on 15 September 2026 from the Google Play listing, the Talkie Lab US App Store listing, Apple's search API, talkie-ai.com and its FAQ, terms, privacy policy, community guidelines and the interface strings shipped in its homepage. No written review of this app ranks for the search. One of the six results is a call-centre voicebot company with the same name.
Two Apps, Two Stores, Two Age Ratings
The original app left the US App Store in December 2024. The South China Morning Post reported on 20 December that it had been unavailable for about six days, that Talkie told users it was for "technical reasons", and that it "remains downloadable on Google Play". It didn't come back under that name. On 11 February 2025 the same publisher, SUBSUP PTE. LTD., released Talkie Lab, and today Apple's search API returns no listing for the original Talkie on the US, UK, Canadian or Australian storefronts.

Both listings read 2026-09-15. Ratings counts move daily.
The VIP FAQ says a Talkie+ subscription "will apply to both the Talkie app and the website", with benefits that "may vary slightly due to differences in the infrastructure of the two platforms". Whether an iPhone user on Talkie Lab is on the same account system as an Android user on the original, I can't tell from the documents, and I'd test it with the free tier before paying on either.
The Play row hasn't moved since summer. When this site read it on 29 July for the Play-side waifu audit, it showed Teen, 50M+ and the same $0.49 to $199.99 range. The App Store row is newer, and the Character AI lookalikes comparison tracked Talkie Lab's rating count at about 3,000 a month through July, with the "Loot Boxes" descriptor flagged as the odd one out. It's at 56,865 today, so the ramp held.
The Free Tier, in the App's Own Words
Talkie doesn't publish a free-tier page. What it publishes, without meaning to, is the interface. The web app ships a table of 929 text strings in its homepage, and the ones that fire when a free user hits a wall describe the tier better than any FAQ.
"Take a break, Talkie's energy has been depleted. Wait until {{time}} or subscribe to Talkie+ for ad-free." That's the core mechanic, a meter that runs out and refills on a timer. Alongside it, four daily caps. "You've reached your chat limit today." "You've reached your recall limit today." "You've reached your regeneration limit today." "You've reached your chat inspiration limit today." Each ends with the same instruction to subscribe for unlimited access. Then the escape hatches. "Watch ad to get extra times", with its own ceiling, "The maximum limit for watching ads has been exceeded." And gems, which buy "+1" of a specific action on a specific message, with "The gem purchase limit for this single message has been reached" as the stop. There's a weekly cap on creating characters too.
The numbers themselves are placeholders. The time, the day count, the limit are all filled in at runtime behind a sign-in, so I can't tell you how many chats a day free gets, and I'd distrust any review that does without a dated screenshot. The YouTube transcript Google surfaces for "Can talkie ai send pics" happens to describe the meter in action, a 26-minute wait after running out, which is one person's timer on one day.
What I can tell you is the design. A free tier with a timer, four daily counters, rewarded ads with a ceiling and a per-message gem top-up is a mobile game's economy, and the App Store descriptor that says "Loot Boxes" and the Talkie+ benefit called "Free Gachas per Month" are the same design seen from the other side. The Play reviews from 2024 to this August are about the ads, "whenever it makes me watch an add to keep chatting", and the one from 22 August describes rewarded ads that grant the reward and then can't be closed, "every 15ish minutes". None of that is a policy. All of it is consistent with the strings.
What Talkie+ Costs
The App Store listing is the only public page where Talkie prints a subscription price. The Talkie Lab listing shows "1 Month" at $9.99 and "1 Month Talkie+ Pro" at $24.99, so Pro is two and a half times Standard, $119.88 against $299.88 a year on monthly billing. Beneath them sit Talkie Gems at $1.99, $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99, a "Sparks Pass" for seven days at $0.59, a "Talkie+ Plus Coin" at $5.99, and gift packs at $0.49 and $1.00. That's three currencies on one listing, gems, sparks and coins, plus the diamonds the web strings bill Claw in, and I'd want each one explained before buying any of them.
The web has its own plan screen, and the strings describe it without pricing it. Two tiers, "Talkie+ Standard" and "Talkie+ Pro", each carrying the identical promise of "the full capabilities of Talkie", billed monthly, quarterly or yearly, with a banner reading "Extra -50% first year" and a template for "${{price}} for 1 year, ${{originalPrice}}/year after". So the annual is a first-year discount that steps up, and the number is whatever your screen shows.
Three documents disagree about where you buy. The terms, dated 23 April 2025, say subscriptions are bought "within the Apps", "paid in monthly installments and processed by the App marketplace partner", and cancelled "only through the App marketplace where you originally acquired the subscription". The VIP FAQ says you cancel "via the 'Manage Billing' section" and switch cycles with an upgrade button, which is web billing. And the same FAQ says "we'll be introducing a Pro plan soon" while Apple already sells one. I'd read that as documents lagging the product, which is common, and I'd still want the refund position clear before paying, because the terms say fees are "non-refundable to the fullest extent permissible" and the FAQ says recharges are "generally non-refundable" except for system errors.
Four Minimum Ages
This is the table I'd show anyone asking whether Talkie is for teenagers, because the product gives four answers.
| Where it's written | Minimum age |
|---|---|
| Terms of service, 23 April 2025 | 14, rising to 16 in eighteen listed countries and 15 in five |
| Google Play listing | Teen, with "Sexual Themes" |
| US App Store, Talkie Lab | 18+ |
| The parents' guide ranking for this search | 13 |
The terms say "You must be at least 14 years old", then raise it to 16 in eighteen listed countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil and Singapore, and 15 in five including France and Denmark. Google Play rates the app Teen with "Sexual Themes". Apple rates Talkie Lab 18+. The parents' guide ranking for this search says "typically, the app is intended for users aged 13 and above", which matches none of the three. Wider practice across the category is in the AI girlfriend 18+ age-check audit, and Talkie sits at the young end of it on paper and the adult end on Apple.
There's a plausible reading. The Play app is the older product with a Teen questionnaire, Talkie Lab is the 2025 product rated for the store that removed its predecessor, and the terms are the company's actual floor. But that's my reconstruction, and the documents don't reconcile it themselves.
Filters, as Written
The Reddit snippet Google shows for "Is Talkie AI a dating app" calls it "mostly for fanservice (hence, the spicy content)". The company's own rules say otherwise.
The Community Guidelines, updated 24 January 2025, prohibit "both explicit sexual content and content with suggestive or implicit sexual undertones". The list under that includes "Sexually suggestive poses, gestures, or descriptions" and, in a line I read twice, "Characters involving tentacles or containing tentacle elements". The FAQ's NSFW answer is softer, "Pornographic and violent content are prohibited as per our terms of service, but we aim to support a diverse range of character types within safe parameters", and the same FAQ says every character edit "undergo[es] moderation", with moderation combining "human oversight with advanced AI technology" per the guidelines.
The store reviews describe the rules being enforced. The most-upvoted of the Play reviews Google shows, from June 2025 with 1,221 helpful votes, complains that "when the app decides I'm getting too deep" it "makes me dial it back" and that competitors "have for the most part gotten far looser". The Trustpilot reviews say the filter blocks ordinary words. So the honest description is a Teen-rated app whose written rules ban suggestion, whose users report the filter firing on romance, and whose reputation as spicy is a comparison to Character AI rather than a description of the policy. The opposite design, an opt-in filter on an 18+ app, is the Chai app review, and the two make a useful pair.
Memory, Which the FAQ Admits Is Limited
"AI memory capacity is technically limited, causing older conversations to be 'forgotten.' Efforts are underway to improve memory capabilities to retain more conversation history." That's the vendor FAQ, and it's more candid than the Play listing's "extended memory".
The interface fills in how the limit works. There's a "Memory Retention" setting whose help text reads, "Max prompt length per reply (Talkie profile + user input). If exceeded, the chat continues, but Talkie may forget earlier turns. A larger limit lets Talkie reference dialogue further back." So memory is a prompt budget, the character sheet and your message share it, and a paid tier raises it. There's a "Basic Memory Limit" label, an "Enhanced Memory" button on the character page, and "Chat Memory" in the Talkie+ benefit list.
Then there's the history itself. "Sorry, only chat records within the past {{days}} days can be synchronized. Get Talkie Pro will grant you additional cloud storage days." Cloud sync has Free, Standard and Pro tiers. The day count is a runtime value, and a Trustpilot reviewer puts it at 60 for free accounts, which I'm passing on as a user report. Whatever the number, the design is that older chat history on a free account stops syncing between devices, which is a different thing from being deleted and easy to mistake for it.
No page publishes a context length or a message count. The daily "recall limit" string suggests recall is metered too. Against the products that do publish numbers, Talkie's position is that memory is a slider you pay to move.
Who Sees Your Chats
The privacy policy is dated 12/09/2025, names SUBSUP PTE. LTD., and makes two promises I'd hold it to. "We will never use or disclose the content of your Talkie conversations for marketing or advertising purposes." And, of its advertising partners, "they will never have access to your conversations with your Talkie". Conversations are collected, "the messages you send and receive through the Apps, such as voice and text messages", and used so the chatbot can "learn from your interactions to improve your conversations". The California table lists birth date, sexual orientation and preferences as demographic data if you provide it. The policy honours Global Privacy Control signals, offers a sale opt-out, and gives no fixed retention period.
Then open the Google Play Data safety panel for the same app. "No data collected. The developer says this app doesn't collect user data." Two categories shared, app interactions and in-app search history. Nothing about messages, nothing about the birth date and pronouns the policy says it asks for at registration. Apple's label for Talkie Lab is nearly as thin, identifiers only, none linked to you. I'm not in a position to say which document is wrong. I am in a position to say a 50-million-install app whose policy lists messages as collected data has told Google it collects none, and that the panel is the one most people will read.
The rest is geography. The entity is in Singapore, the terms route disputes to an address on Emerald Hill Road, the policy says the service is "operated from the United States of America", and the footer says "Powered by MiniMax", with the FAQ confirming the characters are "power[ed] by Minimax" with no human intervention. The Talkie Lab description names the models as "MiniMax Text-01 and DeepSeek-V3". The PAA answer claiming chats are "saved locally and completely private" is a Reddit comment, and the policy lists syncing your history across devices as a purpose, which needs the server to hold it.
Claw, and Being Messaged First
The newest feature is a beta called Talkie Claw, and it changes what kind of product this is.
Claw puts a character into Discord, Telegram or, per the copy, WhatsApp, with a bot token you supply. The guide's pitch is that "your character can surprise you with images, videos, songs, and htmls", can "even reach out to you first", knows "your time zone, local weather, and what's happening around you", and runs on schedules the strings describe as hourly, daily, weekly or a cron expression. It requires Talkie+, though the guide says it's "Free for all during beta", and it's billed in diamonds "based on response length" once the free allowance runs out. How big that allowance is depends on which string you read. The guide says "First 20 messages free". The exhaustion message says "You have used your 30 free messages. From now, each message will cost 1 diamonds per message."
A companion that messages first, on a timer, in the app where your friends are, is a design decision with a lot in it. I'd want the allowance settled and the per-message price on a page before I bound a bot token to anything.
Leaving
The export tool will give you "Email address, Username, Gender, Age". Not the conversations. If you want your chats, copy them yourself.
Deactivation "will permanently erase" all conversation content, which is what you'd want. It also does something you might not. "After successfully logging out, you will automatically relinquish ownership of your Talkie. The creator of the Talkie will appear as 'Null.'" Characters you published stay up, anonymised, with no stated way to take them down first. The terms add that Talkie "reserve[s] the right to terminate accounts that are inactive for an extended period of time" and has "no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any data", which is the standard clause and worth knowing given the sync limits above.
Questions
Is Talkie AI trustworthy? The privacy policy makes better promises than most of the category and the Data safety panel undercuts it. The company is Singaporean, the models are MiniMax's, the app was pulled from the US App Store once and the company's next iPhone app carries a new name. I'd go by the policy's words rather than the panel's silence.
How much does Talkie AI cost per month? $9.99 for Talkie+ and $24.99 for Talkie+ Pro on the Talkie Lab App Store today. Web prices sit behind sign-in with a first-year discount. Gems, sparks, coins and diamonds are extra.
Does Talkie AI see your chats? Yes, in the sense that messages are collected and used to improve the chatbot, and moderation involves human oversight per the guidelines. No, in the sense that the policy says conversation content is never used for marketing and ad partners never see it.
Is Talkie AI a dating app? The terms call it "a self-help program based on communication with your personal chatbot". The homepage's first prompt is "Looking for connections?" The guidelines ban suggestive content. It's a character platform that users treat as romance, with rules that say they shouldn't get far.
Can Talkie AI send pics? The Play listing lists AI image, video, audio and music creation, Talkie Lab's subtitle is "Assistant, Video, Audio, Image", and Claw sends images and videos. Not nudity, per the guidelines.
What can you do on Talkie AI? Chat with user-made characters, make your own, earn cards the FAQ says can be traded for virtual currency, share memories from chats, and, in beta, put a character in your messaging apps.
What I'd Do Before Paying
Install the version your store gives you and read the age rating on it, because the two stores disagree and the terms disagree with both. If you're under 18 on an iPhone, Apple's answer is no.
Then run the free tier until the energy string appears and note the time it gives you. That's the only free-tier number that exists, and it's yours rather than a reviewer's.
Then open the wallet before the subscription screen. Four currencies, one of them called gems and one of them called diamonds, with gems that expire, is more bookkeeping than a $9.99 plan should need, and if you can't say what a spark is after reading the screen, don't buy a pass of them.
And if your chats matter, copy them out by hand. The export gives you four fields, the sync has a day limit, and the account you delete takes the conversations with it while leaving your characters behind under a name that isn't yours.
