SpicyChat Alternatives Compared on Filters and Cost

SpicyChat raised every one of its prices on 8 September 2026, and in the same FAQ it told existing subscribers exactly how to avoid paying the new ones.

Direct answer first, because the search for SpicyChat alternatives usually starts with one of four complaints, and each has a different best answer. If it's the price, the cheapest fix is to not touch your existing plan, since SpicyChat's own docs say an unchanged subscription keeps its old rate. If it's the memory, the free tier is 4,096 tokens and the top tier is 16,384, and Janitor AI's free tier publishes roughly 9,000 while its paid tier claims five times that for $12.99. If it's the missing iPhone app, Apple removed it in August 2025 and it isn't coming back, so the choices are the web version, an Android APK, or a platform that still has an App Store listing. And if it's the loss of your own API key, which SpicyChat sunset in November 2025, Chub AI is the hosted platform that still lets you bring one.

Every figure below was read from each platform's own docs, terms or store listing on 15 September 2026. SpicyChat's website is a JavaScript app that returns no text to a plain request, so its GitBook documentation is the source for everything about it.

Why People Leave, in SpicyChat's Own Words

The ranking pages for this search describe SpicyChat in adjectives. Its documentation describes it in numbers, and the numbers explain the complaints better.

Context. Free users and Get A Taste subscribers get up to 4,096 tokens, True Supporter gets 8,192 and I'm All In gets 16,384, and the docs stress that the total "is shared across everything needed for the reply", meaning the character definition and your persona eat into it before the conversation starts. SpicyChat's own worked example says a 1,000-token character with messages of about 150 tokens leaves room for "around 20 recent messages" on the free tier. Replies are capped at 180 tokens on the bottom two tiers and 300 on the top two.

The key. An archived docs page for using your own OpenAI key carries a warning box that reads, in full, "This feature has been sunset on Nov 17th, 2025." You get SpicyChat's models, which its FAQ counts at more than ten across tiers, at the context your tier allows.

The phone. A notice dated 27 August 2025 says Apple removed the iOS app for not complying with its guidelines and that reinstatement chances were "very low". Installed copies stopped working on 25 September 2025. Android users get an APK from SpicyChat's own site, not from Google Play. iPhone users get a home-screen shortcut to the website.

The gate. Age verification, by video selfie or ID, applies to users connecting from France, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 named US states. Skip it and the docs say NSFW content "will no longer be accessible".

The ads. The first paid perk listed for Get A Taste is "No Ads", which is the closest SpicyChat comes to saying the free tier has them.

And the rule that surprised me. The FAQ asks that any bot you import from another platform be kept private, since public bots "should be unique creations of their users". Bringing a character with you is supported, in PNG or JSON, but publishing it there isn't.

The Locked-Price Maths

This is the section that didn't exist a week ago, and it changes the answer for anyone already paying.

From SpicyChat's September 2026 pricing FAQ, read 2026-09-15. Euro prices match dollars; GBP is £4.95, £16.95 and £25.95 monthly.

The rules underneath the table are the useful part. An active subscription, monthly or annual, keeps renewing at the price you already pay for as long as it stays active and unchanged. Any change moves you to current pricing, and the FAQ lists what counts as a change: upgrading, downgrading, and switching between monthly and annual in either direction. A lapsed subscription can't get its old price back. A failed payment gets "two or three" retries, after which it lapses.

So a True Supporter on the old monthly rate who downgrades to save money pays $5.95 for Get A Taste and, if they come back, $19.95 for the tier they left. Staying put costs $14.95 and holds. That's $60 a year between the old and new True Supporter rates, and $50 between the old and new I'm All In annual. The cheapest SpicyChat alternative, for a lot of the people searching this term, is the SpicyChat plan they already have.

If you're not already subscribed, the annual rates are where the discount lives. Twelve months of Get A Taste at $5.95 is $71.40 against $60 annual.

Alternatives, Measured Where SpicyChat Is Thin

Here's the field on SpicyChat's own weak points rather than on a generic feature list.

Read from each platform's docs, terms or store listing on 2026-09-15. CrushOn is absent because crushon.ai returned 403 to every request, and the Google Play search for it returned two listings with 0+ and 50+ installs, both carrying ads and rated Everyone, neither of which I'd take for the platform.

Only two hosted platforms in the table publish a context number, and SpicyChat is one of them. That's worth saying before listing its replacements. The thing people complain about is the thing it's most honest about.

Janitor, If the Complaint Is Memory

Janitor's help centre puts its free model at "around 9k tokens" with unlimited chats and says the free option will always exist. Janitor+ adds "5x more context" at $12.99 a month on the App Store, which, if the multiplier applies to the 9k figure, is roughly 45,000 tokens. I'm labelling that as my arithmetic on their two numbers.

Against SpicyChat's ladder, the free tier alone is more than double the free context and the paid tier is close to three times the top rung at less than half the price. What Janitor doesn't publish is a reply-length cap or a persona count, and its app ships in Safe Mode with NSFW hidden until you flip a web setting. Age verification applies from Australia, Brazil and the UK. Chub, If the Complaint Is the Key

Chub's API page lists OpenAI, Anthropic, Kobold or Ooba, OpenRouter, Google and NovelAI as things you can connect with your own key, or a reverse proxy for the first two, and its getting-started page describes the platform as "uncensored" without qualification. The house model, Mars, is $20 a month with unlimited messaging. Chats export as JSONL, PNG or text.

What Chub doesn't give you is a number. I found no free-tier context, no message cap and no named company on the docs pages that loaded, and the subscription page renders nothing without JavaScript. So Chub restores the property SpicyChat removed and withholds the one SpicyChat is best at. Whether that's a good trade depends on whether you're the kind of person who reads the tier ladder or the kind who brings a Claude key.

Candy and Nastia, If the Complaint Is Pictures

Neither of these is a card-library platform, and I'd only put them on the list because the ranking pages do.

Candy.ai's subscription page shows $13.99 monthly, $26.97 quarterly and $47.88 annually, and its help centre publishes the free tier as five messages, one character and one image. Paid accounts get unlimited chat plus 100 tokens a month, and tokens are what images, voice and video cost. There's no native app on either store and no context size anywhere, and the help centre says clearing a chat resets its memory. It's a different product, priced for images rather than for long roleplay, and the full read of its documents is in the Candy AI review.

Nastia is the other name the ranking pages and the semrush competitor list keep surfacing, and it's worth a paragraph because its paperwork changed. When this site last read Nastia's terms, in July, no jurisdiction was stated. Today the footer carries a French SIREN number and the terms, last updated 3 May 2024, say they're governed by French law with disputes in French courts and EU consumers keeping their home protections. All purchases are non-refundable. Visa and Mastercard only, in US dollars. The homepage promises a "generous free tier that includes daily messages" without saying how many, calls itself uncensored, and says it never shares or sells your information. The pricing page returned no text, so I can't quote a price, and I'm not going to borrow one from a listicle.

Character.AI, and Why It Isn't One

The PAA asks whether C.AI is NSFW, and the honest answer is that it's the platform people leave to get to SpicyChat rather than the other way round. Its subscription page prices c.ai+ at $94.99 a year, gives paid users 30 memory pins against 15 free, and describes memory in adjectives rather than tokens. Nothing on the page I loaded mentions adult content one way or the other, which for this search is the answer.

The position-two Reddit thread for this search is a paying SpicyChat subscriber leaving over moderation, and I'd be surprised if Character.AI were where that person ends up.

The Alternative SpicyChat Runs Itself

This one is in SpicyChat's own mobile docs and in none of the ranking pages.

PixelChat is SpicyChat's SFW sister platform. It's on Google Play, published by NextDayAI, rated Teen, with 500K+ downloads, 2.54K reviews averaging 3.3 stars, an update on 4 September 2026, and in-app purchases listed at "$5.95 - $299.95 per item", which are SpicyChat's new bottom monthly and top annual prices exactly. The docs say that if you prefer subscribing through an app store, you can subscribe via PixelChat and "your subscription will automatically apply to SpicyChat as well".

So the path for someone who wants store billing for SpicyChat exists. It's Android-only, it's through an app with a Teen rating that doesn't carry the adult content, and the payment lands on your SpicyChat account. Whether that arrangement survives contact with Google's policies over time isn't something I can predict, and the docs don't say what happens to the linked subscription if PixelChat were removed the way the iOS app was. The store-listing side of SpicyChat's name, including the third-party App Store entries wearing it, is laid out in the roleplay site app audit.

Which AI is the most unrestricted? Of the hosted platforms here, Chub is the only one that uses the word uncensored about itself in its docs, and every hosted platform including Chub states 18 as the floor and bans some content. SillyTavern has no rules because it's software on your machine, and whatever rules apply come from the model behind it.

Which app is best for spicy chats? On iPhone, none of the adult-first platforms in the table has an App Store listing, so the answer is a web shortcut whichever you pick. On Android, SpicyChat's APK and Janitor's app, with Janitor's NSFW hidden until enabled on the web.

What are the alternatives to SpicyChat? Janitor for context, Chub for your own key, SillyTavern for control, Candy for images, and the SpicyChat plan you already have if the price is the problem.

Is C.AI considered NSFW? No. Nothing on its subscription page addresses adult content, and it's the origin of most of the traffic to the platforms in this article.

How I'd Choose

If you're already subscribed, do nothing to the plan until you've decided. The locked price is the single most valuable thing SpicyChat gives an existing customer, it dies on any change, and the docs say so three different ways.

If the memory is the problem, the free half of the fix is Janitor's 9k free tier and the paid half is Janitor+ at $12.99, both of which beat SpicyChat's top rung on published numbers. The trade is a platform that publishes fewer of the other numbers.

If the key is the problem, Chub. If the phone is the problem, there isn't an adult-first platform with an App Store presence in this set, and the honest options are an Android APK, a web shortcut, or PixelChat billing on Android.

And whichever way you go, refund terms differ more than the products do. SpicyChat's Pay By Bank purchases are one-time and non-renewing, Nastia is non-refundable outright, and Candy gives you 24 hours if you've used almost nothing.
